Holidays Abroad

Living abroad can make holidays feel like just another day. Don't get me wrong, though Kuwait does its best to get you into the holiday spirit, it's still a very different feeling out here. For some holidays mean travel and for others it means linking with other friends and families to create that festive family feeling. For us, it means days off, and family time on the couch. I got our tree up before the 15th this year which is a small miracle cause I'm always behind on that!

We do our best each year to make holidays in Kuwait (for our kids) feel the same way as they did for us growing up, but each year (at least for our oldest) it becomes increasingly more difficult. The oldest just wants to travel more (and Froot Loops with marshmallows LOL), and the baby boy isn't old enough to care yet.

With time I'm learning that this season is less about all the things I think I'm supposed to do, and more about just making the most of the moments. Out here every off day is a holiday. Any 3 day weekend is a great reason to travel. Amazon prime, even out here, is the gift that keeps on giving! Christmas doesn't have that special feeling because we get good service, boxes in the mail, and horrible mall traffic year round.

So let me encourage you to give love, not just on Christmas Day, but every day! Stop waiting until the holidays to spend time with those you love. Take more days off. Buy your kids that thing they asked for and deserve...wrap it...watch their eyes light up because they got a gift on a random Tuesday! Take more pictures! Don't try to make up for a whole year of missed opportunities in the 2 weeks of Christmas/New Years.

Happy Holidays ❤️
