Master Procrastinator

It's sooooo important to know your own weaknesses.

(Scrolls through Facebook for an hour or so...)

For me, this means....

(Starts watching anime with the kid! Maaaaan I love this episode!!!)

...not just realizing the problem, but also doing something about it.

So, I'm a bit (a lot) of a procrastinator.

(I went to sleep...I kid you not...smh)

This isn't just writers block, or the inablility to think of something witty (or true) to say. This is just me...putting off what I said I was gonna do DAYS ago right until the last minute. With age I'm realizing, that no matter how awesome the outcome, this habit of mine is what's holding me back from being as great as I really should have been years ago...I was just putting it off.

DISCLAIMER:

So before I tell you how I'm overcoming my outer procrastinator, I feel like I need to tell the person with a completely full plate that

SELFCARE IS NOT PROCRASTINATION.

No matter what things you have to get accomplished, if you are sacrificing your well-being to see them to the end, please take a moment and ask yourself - "Am I such an integral part of this moment that if I were to pass away right now, no one else could do this for me." If you are replaceable (and truthfully, even if you aren't), you can take a moment to breathe.

But this isn't me. I'm getting my self care in. I'm just...putting off tasks until the last minute because I know that they will get done. In turn, it's made it almost impossible for me stay ahead in certain areas. Someone I knew once said they "thrived in chaos"...it was silly the first time I heard it, but as I work to grow and mature, it's hands down one of the most illogical things I've ever heard an adult say. No one thrives in chaos. Being able to rise to the occasion in chaotic situations is commendable. Creating chaotic situations to recreate moments of productivity is senseless.

So, I've recruited the following tactics as I work to be more organized:

Get a Planner and USE IT! There's nothing quite like seeing your life in black and white. I've found that I'm more likely to complete tasks that are staring me in the face, versus ones that are in my head or my phone.

Keep an accoutability circle. This isn't as easy as it sounds, but well worth it! It's a positive when you can find a couple people that you can share your goals with. This sharing should allow for them to call you out when they see you lagging. Both my husband and my good friend are great at reminding me to get and STAY FOCUSED.

Set short term goals. I've started trying to set daily, weekly, and monthly goals. The smaller goals should all gear towards accomplishing one "larger" goal each month. I'm a daydreamer by nature, so it's often really easy to see the end result. Where I was struggling (and often procrastinating) was within the smaller steps.

This is a work in progress.

(I've been reading a new manga on and off this entire blogpost...smh...but I did finish on time.)

I'm currently working on my goals for the rest of 2018.

Wish me luck & productivity! ❤️
